Connor Maloney and Colton Storm -- who played their high school soccer at Bishop McDevitt and Cumberland Valley, respectively -- have been tagged All-Americans for their efforts at a different soccer level.
Their clubs.
Maloney, a Penn State verbal commitment who also was named All-American following a terrific senior season at McDevitt, essentially landed his youth All-America recognition for his efforts with the Steve Klein-coached Pennsylvania Classics' U-16 entry in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
A forward/midfielder with a nose for the goal, Maloney played for Classics outfits that advanced to the Development Academy's national championship tournament each of the past two summers. Classics' 2011 U-16 entry reached the national final, falling to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Maloney also played for the U-17 entry operated by Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union, a group that last August in Seattle claimed the prestigious Generation adidas Cup.
Storm, who finished high school on Friday and will enroll at North Carolina on Jan. 9, earned his spot on the youth All-America team for his play with an HMMS Eagle F.C. side coached by former Harrisburg Heat star Gino DiFlorio.
Storm did not play as a senior at CV, eschewing the high school game to concentrate on completing his academic requirements so he could graduate early. He did, however, train regularly with Classics' U-18 entry and the U-18 group put together by Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union.
Storm, who spent his sophomore year of high school in the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency Program in Florida, also appeared regularly with the Union's reserve team this past season, playing with and against professional players.
