Sidni Peiffer’s goal Friday in the District 3-AA girls’ high jump competition: Just go for it.
After all, Annville-Cleona’s sophomore jumper came into districts as just the No. 7 seed, with a season-best clear of 5-0.
Peiffer went three inches better than that on Friday afternoon at Shippensburg University, clearing 5-3 — a personal best — to win district gold.
Peiffer’s previous best was a 5-2 last season.
On Friday, she cleared 5-3 on her second attempt at that height to secure the gold medal. She took three stabs at 5-4 but didn’t clear it.
But her 5-3 put her on top of the medals podium — and gave her a spot in next weekend’s PIAA finals.

Peiffer on winning gold — “I actually didn’t expect this at all. I just kind of went for it, hoping it would turn out this good. And it did. I can definitely say that I tried harder because this is a big meet and it means a lot. So I definitely did give it my all.”
Peiffer on qualifying for the state finals — “I don’t really know what to expect because I know the other girls going will all be really good. I’ll be kind of nervous to see how it all works out. But I’m really looking forward to going.”
