Opening the District 3-AA hoops bracket in style, Upper Dauphin used titanic performances by Matt Miller, Brendan Nestor and Mac Ney to jettison Tri-Valley League rival Halifax 78-64 on Wednesday at Foster Gymnasium.
The Trojans (13-10) slowly extended a 34-30 halftime advantage as Miller collected five of UD's six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points. Miller added 10 rebounds. Nestor, meanwhile, secured another double-double with 20 points and 16 boards.
Ney's 16 points capped the UD thrill ride and shipped the eighth-seeded Trojans to Saturday's quarterfinal tilt at top-seeded Hanover. Ninth-seeded Halifax (12-11), which split a pair of regular-season games with Upper Dauphin, fell despite Hunter Hilinski's 19 point and 17 from Dan Osenbach.
