L-L League girls’ basketball has hit its holiday break.

Here’s the lowdown about the Section 1 race, which resumes Jan. 3.

L-L LEAGUE SECTION 1 STANDINGS

SCORING LEADERS
Ahnera Parker, McCaskey — 6 games, 104 points — 17.3
Rylee Derr, Warwick — 7 games, 111 points — 15.9
Alex Leslie, Manheim Township — 6 games, 89 points — 14.8
Kaitlyn Van Tash, Manheim Township — 6 games, 85 points — 14.2

3-POINT LEADERS
Brittany Imel, Penn Manor — 12
Haley Eager, Hempfield — 6
Rachel Miller, Cedar Crest — 6
Nicole Files, Manheim Township — 5
Alex Rich, Cedar Crest — 5
Emily Wagner, Cedar Crest — 5
Nikki Wagner, Cedar Crest — 5
Mary Kate Wells, Penn Manor — 5

FOLLOW THE LEADERS: Three-time reigning section champ Manheim Township is undefeated (4-0, 6-0) and shares the top spot with uber rival Hempfield (4-0, 4-2). FYI: Black Knights at Blue Streaks on Jan. 8.

STREAKING STREAKS: Manheim Township hit the holiday break riding a 52-game L-L League winning streak, including a 48-44 win over Cedar Crest last Friday, which knocked the Falcons (3-1, 3-2) out of a 3-way tie for the top spot. Coach Sean Burkhart and the Streaks will try and make it 53 in a row on Jan. 3 at Penn Manor.

RED TORNADO ON THE RISE: It’s been a lean couple of seasons at McCaskey. But coach Brian McCloud’s crew is back in the thick of things, at 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the league and a game behind Manheim Township and Hempfield. One of the biggest reasons for the turnaround: Newbie Ahnera Parker can flat-out score the ball; she’s tied for fourth in the L-L and is first in Section 1 in scoring, and she’s scored in double digits in all six games, including three 20-point nights. Hello, world. Tack on bigs Ayanda McGill-Jefferson (8.8) and Lancaster Country Day transfer — and Tennessee-Chattanooga recruit — Ashlyn Wert, and the Tornado has also come up big on D in the frontcourt. Section 1 is so much more fun when McCaskey is good. Maybe this is the season the Tornado wedges its way back into the lead pack.

NUMBERS GAME: Warwick is playing with a varsity/JV roster of just 11, and that roster includes zero — zip — seniors. Warriors are the lone winless team in the L-L at the holiday breather (0-4, 0-7). On the plus side, soph point Kate Martin and frosh scorer Rylee Derr are learning — and getting better and better — on the fly for coach Amy Derr’s squad. … Speaking of numbers, Penn Manor has been short one key cog this season: Mikayla Fry will miss the season with an ACL knee injury. Abbie Hamby has been holding her own in the paint, and Brittany Imel has been hot from the arc. But the Comets are just 1-6.
