After dealing with two days of postponements, girls’ soccer fans will have to endure one more.
To give participating schools extra time to recover from Hurricane Sandy, the District 3 semifinal games scheduled for Wednesday have been moved to Thursday. All three district classifications will hold their games Thursday, promising for a long and exciting night of soccer.
The can’t-miss matchup of the day is in the Class AAA bracket, where Cumberland Valley and Lower Dauphin will do battle at Hersheypark Stadium at 5 p.m. The game is a rematch of the Mid-Penn Championship game, won by the Eagles, 3-2. This time around, a berth in the district championship is at stake. The winner will face either Wilson or Governor Mifflin in the finals.
The teams have had six days to prepare for one another and should be chomping at the bit to get back on the field.
“The main thing is we’re just trying to stay mentally focused,” CV coach Seth Lehman said. “Lower Dauphin has a lot of team speed and match up with us very well. It’s going to be a battle.”
In Class AA, No. 1 seed Trinity will be a road warrior once again, traveling to Penn Manor to play Wyomissing at 5 p.m. The Shamrocks will have traveled around 154 round-trip miles during the quarterfinals and semifinals, but if they win Thursday, the reward will be a trip to the district title game to face either Brandywine Heights or Capital Division rival Northern. The Bullets and Polar Bears will play at Eagle View Middle School at 7 p.m.
Finally, in the Class A semifinals, Halifax will play Lancaster Country Day at 5 p.m. at York Suburban High School for the right to take on either Tulpehocken or York Catholic in the district championship game.
