Each Monday during the football season, members of the PennLive prep football coverage team will pass out three game balls to deserving gridiron athletes …
LANCASTER — OK, lets hand out some game balls to the top performers from Week 3 of L-L League football, shall we.
First up: Marc Royer, senior RB, Manheim Central — One week after torching Hempfield for 187 yards and a TD, Royer was back at it again in Week 3 at Daniel Boone. The 5-9 180-pound speedster had nine carries for 180 yards — a nifty 20.0 yards per pop — and a 16-yard TD scamper in the Barons’ 52-0 whitewash over the Blazers as Manheim Central improved to 3-0. Through three games, Royer is your L-L rushing leader, with 33 carries for 422 yards — a nifty 12.8 yards per rush — and four TD runs.
L-L LEAGUE RUSHING LEADERS
1. Marc Royer, Manheim Central — 33-422 yards, 12.8, 4 TD
2. John Raifsnider, Wilson — 53-345 yards, 6.5, 6 TD
3. Michael Roberts, Columbia — 60-335 yards, 5.6, 2 TD
4. Devin Washington, Hempfield — 64-333 yards, 5.2, 3 TD
5. Mark Pyles, Lebanon — 50-311 yards, 6.2, 3 TD
Next up: Sam Kramer, sophomore QB, Hempfield — Pressed into starting duty when Mike Edwards was knocked out of the Knights’ Week 2 game at Manheim Central, Kramer came up roses in Week 3 at Central York. The 5-11, 170-pounder completed 5-of-12 passes for 63 yards, including a 58-yard TD strike to Tyrell Wickersham. But it was with his feet where Kramer did most of his damage; he rushed 18 times for 171 yards and a pair of scores: A 67-yard romp to put Hempfield on the board after a scoreless first half, before his 6-yard TD keeper with 50 seconds to go gave the Knights a riveting 28-21 win over CY.
And last but certainly not least: Jeremy De La Cruz, senior WR, Lebanon — There’s no hotter QB in the L-L these days than Mark Pyles, who pulls the trigger in Lebanon’s “Air Raid” attack. De La Cruz was a major beneficiary of Pyles’ hotness in Week 3. In the Cedars’ rip-roaring 51-27 win at Elco, De La Cruz caught six passes for 212 yards — an eye-popper 35.3 yards per grab — and he hauled in three TD receptions from Pyles in Lebanon’s victory — its second in a row to improve to 2-1 after going 0-10 last season. The 5-9, 180-pounder, who caught a team-best 60 passes in 2012, had TD grabs of 17, 77 and 64 yards, respectively, against Elco.
L-L LEAGUE RECEPTION LEADERS
1. Derek Miller, Elco — 24-278 yards, 11.6, 1 TD
2. Jeremy De La Cruz, Lebanon — 13-312 yards, 24.0, 3 TD
