MOUNT JOY - He is Donegal's Mr. Versatility.

Need to establish the post and get buckets in the paint?

Toss it inside to Matt Foltz, who can score at the rim and get stickbacks off the glass.

Need a 3-point shooter and, more importantly, a guy who can knock down the outside shot while drawing opposing defenders out of the paint?

Swing it to Foltz, who can hit the 3 from the top, the wings or the corner.

Need a rugged defender who, at 6-6, can go toe-to-toe with the bigs, block shots, alter shots and deliver a quick outlet pass after snaring a D board?

Yeah, Foltz can do that, too.

Foltz is part of Donegal's vet starting five, along with twins Jason and Martin Dietrich, Dylan Houseal and Michael Banwell.

Those guys have been through it all - including a superb L-L League semifinal against McCaskey last Wednesday. A 72-65 loss in the Indians' column, but Donegal hung with the league champs.

The Indians opened District 3 play on Tuesday with a 58-38 win over L-L League neighbor Lancaster Mennonite in a AAA first-round game.

Foltz scored 15 points and grabbed eight boards as Donegal improved to 24-1 overall and set up a quarterfinal-round game vs. Lancaster Catholic on Friday.

After missing four games with a gimpy knee at mid-season, Foltz has been a key cog for Donegal; he's averaging 11.8 points since January 7 and he's averaging 12.0 points in 21 games.

Foltz pumped in a season-high 22 points in Donegal's win over Lebanon in the first round of the L-L League playoffs. And he scored a dozen points in the instant-classic game vs. McCaskey.

Foltz, who played quarterback for Donegal's football team, revealed Tuesday that he'll attend a prep school in the fall - he's currently checking out his options, including The Hill School in Pottstown - and will play football.

Chatted with Foltz after Donegal's win over Lancaster Mennonite about the Indians' success and where Donegal goes from here. Take a look.
