LANCASTER - The L-L League's top javelin thrower from last season has made his college choice.
Wooed by several major Division I programs from across the country, Manheim Central senior Cole Proffitt confirmed to PennLive.com on Sunday that he's accepting an athletic scholarship offer to throw the jav for Penn State.
Proffitt, who will sign a national letter of intent on Wednesday, choose PSU over Virginia and Oregon.
Proffitt had a standout junior season from start to finish last spring, when he cleared the 200-foot standard twice.
He heaved a 200-7 to win the L-L League championship, and he uncorked a 200-9 to win bronze in the PIAA finals.
Proffitt also won three different invitationals, finished fourth at the Penn Relays - where he'll throw again later this spring - took second in the Junior Nationals and won the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Puerto Rico.
