LANCASTER - A lot of eyeballs on Manheim Township junior Matt Grossman this wrestling season.
And rightfully so.
If you make a state final in any class and in any weight in the state Pennsylvania, that's a monumental accomplishment.
Grossman made the 113-pound PIAA-AAA finale last March.
While the outcome wasn't what he was hoping for - he fell to Council Rock South's Billy Rappo 12-0 in the gold-medal match - Grossman had a fabulous ride.
This season, wrestling 'up' at 132 pounds, Grossman earned the No. 1 seed in the L-L League championships, which got started Friday night at Conestoga Valley.
Grossman upped his record to 25-6 this season with a pair of victories:
He earned a a 17-2 tech fall win over McCaskey's Phillip Urena, and he pinned Columbia's Alec Hooper in 3:09 to advance to Saturday's semifinals, where he'll take on Cedar Crest's Barry Breidegan.
And, Grossman helped the Streaks take the overall team lead after the first day of competition.
Chatted with Grossman after his win over Hooper about his journey to last season's state championship match, and how things are going so far this season with all the extra eyeballs watching his every move.
