HS boys' swimming roundup: Northern nails down team title at Central York's Panther Classic

Mid-Penn Colonial leader Northern continued its outstanding 2012-13 season by grabbing the overall team title Saturday at the Panther Classic at Central York High School.

The Polar Bears took down four meet records and finished with 276 points - 26 points better than second-place Muhlenberg. Central Dauphin finished fourth, while Palmyra came in sixth place.

Leading the way for Scott Zacharda's club was the 200 medley relay team of Liam Handley, Cory Poe, Nate Stewart and Ben Haley, who clocked a 1:43.67 for the first meet record of the day.

Josh Clarke broke the meet record in the 200 freestyle - a record that was held by Clarke's former teammate Sam Linder.

Handley, meanwhile, broke his own record in the 100 back, while Haley, Keenan Handley, Poe and Clarke set a new meet standard in the 400 free relay.

Haley also added a first place finish in the 50 free with a 22.71.

Central Dauphin missed winning the 200 free relay by .04 seconds, forcing Zac Key, Montanna Naccarato, Alec Enterline and Chris Tkatch to settle for second.

Danny Tunitis finished third in the 200 free and 500 free for Palmyra, while Evan Downey was fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free.

Boiling Springs 91, York Suburban 79

Schuylkill Valley 97, Boiling Springs 73

The Bubblers earned a split in this tri-meet in Leesport. Brendan Barnes finished first in the 200 free and second in the 100 fly, while Shane Hallett was a double winner in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Dylan Knaub earned second in the 50 free and Boiling Springs' 200 and 400 free relay teamm took second.

Hershey 110, Emmaus 70

Will Drexler swam a strong 1:45.07 in the 200 freestyle, while Vinny Tafuto cruised to the 50 free and 100 free for the unbeaten Trojans.

Austin Doss added wins in the 100 fly and 100 back and Drexler chipped in a second individual win in the 500 free.

Arctic Classic at Clearfield

Mifflin County's Evan Becker finished second in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 free as the Huskies finished ninth out of 11 schools at Clearfield High School.

Bellefonte, which bested Mifflin County in a Dec. 28 dual, ran away with the team title.
