Central Dauphin's defense wraps up Manheim Twp.'s Raycol Martinez, during second half action of a District 3-AAAA playoff game at Landis Field Friday night. Central Dauphin defeated Manheim Twp. 38-30. - (CHRIS KNIGHT, The Patriot-News)

When you play the defending District 3 and PIAA champion, if opportunity knocks you must answer the bell.

Manheim Twp. ran 22 plays in the first quarter and was having some success establishing a ground game to go compliment dynamic quarterback Brennan Scott. Central Dauphin had the ball less than 2 minutes of the opening quarter. But the Rams had 14 points to show for their work. Manheim Twp. had zip.

“We just didn’t finish. I think we left a lot of points on the field tonight,” Blue Streaks coach Mark Evans said. “We had to finish our drives. And we didn’t do a good job of finishing tonight. I told our kids this would not be the same CD team you saw on film against McCaskey last week. And they weren’t. From what I had seen on film, they played very good tonight.”

Credit the Rams defense for some of that early thunder. The Blue Streaks were forced to punt twice in the opening 12 minutes, and Zayd Issah recovered a fumble that led to Central Dauphin's second touchdown.
