After the final numbers have been crunched, District 3 Baseball Chairman Pat Tulley released the official tournament brackets Thursday afternoon. As you might expect, intriguing first-round match ups are everywhere, especially within the borders of the Mid-Penn Conference.
But first, leading the way in each classification is Reading High (18-5), West York (17-3), Susquenita (14-5) and Lancaster County Christian (13-1), which is set to battle West Shore Christian in tonight's CCAC final at Messiah College. In addition, the Red Knights (18-5) upended Berks Catholic Wednesday for their first league championship since 1993.
Closer to home, however, there is no shortage of prime opening-round tussles, especially in Class AAAA where No. 2 Lower Dauphin (17-3) will host No. 15 Chambersburg (10-10) and No. 7 Cedar Cliff (13-7) will entertain No. 10 Waynesboro (15-5). Higher seeds will host all first-round games.
Elsewhere, No. 4 Cumberland Valley (13-7) will tangle with No. 13 Penn Manor and Red Land (12-8) will travel to No. 5 Spring Grove (14-6).
In Class AAA, No. 16 Middletown (10-10) will get the first crack at the top-seeded Bulldogs on Monday. No. 2 Greencastle-Antrim (18-2), the defending districts champions, will play host to No. 15 Fleetwood.
