HS softball: Results, news and stats for Saturday, April 26

NEWVILLE — Greencastle-Antrim defeated South Western 11-0 Saturday to win the 2014 Bulldog Classic Softball Tournament.

G-A defeated New Oxford 16-8 and host Big Spring 6-5 to reach the championship game. South Western made the final after defeating Chambersburg 11-5 and Shippensburg 7-1.

“The girls played great, the offense was in full gear,” Greencastle coach Mark DeCarli said. “Ally Brown was solid in this game, but it was a whole team effort.”

Brown went the distance to pick up the win. Ashlyn Schaeffer led Greencastle with a single homer in the second inning.

Shippensburg defeated Big Spring 10-0 for third place, Chambersburg finished fifth with a 4-3 win over Muhlenberg and New Oxford was seventh with a 6-3 win over Spring Grove.

Line Mountain 9, Newport 2 » Box Score

Line Mountain scored all the runs it needed with three in the first inning of Saturday’s road win. Brooke Long, Joelle Snyder and Kiana Lukoskie all went 3-for-5 for Line Mountain. Long and Snyder brought in two runs and Lukoskie had three RBIs. Newport was led by Abi Albright (3-for-3, RBI) and Kate Geyer (2-for-4).

Halifax 2, Upper Dauphin 1 » Box Score

Halifax improved to 7-0 in the Tri-Valley League thanks to a pair of runs in the first inning. Anna Seiders brought in Davia Erdman and Chelsea Konyar with a blooper behind second base. Upper Dauphin’s run came in the third when Amber Bingaman led off with a double to the wall, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a fielder’s choice by Taylor Brown. Konyar struck out four, walked three and gave up just two hits to Bingaman for the win.

Mifflin County 8, Jersey Shore 1 » Box Score

Hannah Ruby allowed four hits in just her second start to pick up the win. She struck out four and went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Sage Heckendorn was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Mara Rhodes and Kali Hunter both went 2-for-4; Hunter had a pair of RBI.

Palmyra 10, Northern Lebanon 1 » Box Score

Catherine Wicker struck out four to pick up the complete-game win. Kayla Bonowitz had a two-run homer to pace the Cougars at the plate. Kailey Werkheiser was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Rebecca Sell as 2-for-3 with an RBI and triple in the win.

Elco 12, Tulpehocken 3 » Box Score

Claire Shaak doubled and tripled to lead Elco to the win on the road. Shaak finished with two RBIs, Olivia Hess had a double, McKenna Achenbach was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Vern Reinhart was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Shaak, who threw 637 pitches in six games this week, picked up the win. Kayla Paulson doubled and scored a run for Tulpehocken.
