Possibilities abounded for David Bricker as he considered his college options.

Bricker, a star in both track and soccer for Trinity, has offers from several schools in the two sports. But no matter how many possibilities there are, an athlete eventually has to pick just one.

In December, Bricker decided to continue in track and field at UNC-Wilmington.

Among Bricker's accomplishments on the track are a state championship in the 400-meter dash, when he ran a 49.77 at the PIAA Class AA meet last spring. He also won the 200 at the District 3 Meet with a 22.83.

Bricker also had 25 goals and eight assists for the Shamrocks' soccer team this fall.

The following interview took place during the Bruce Dallas Invitational on Saturday.

What was the biggest factor in choosing UNC-Wilmington?

I visited with my mom and day in August. My parents loved it and I loved it; Coach Thomas did a great job recruiting me. ... He showed us around everywhere for eight hours. ... It's right up there with the state schools academically.

Both you and an individual and Trinity as a team are coming off of excellent seasons. Any extra pressure on you to repeat that success?

Not really. Our coaches do a good job of getting us ready. Our goal isn't really to win these [early season] meets. but to be ready for Mid-Penns and districts. ... As the year goes on, we're going to get better and better.

What would you consider to be a successful season for yourself?

I'm not focused as much on winning as on times this year. My personal best [in the 400] is a 48.79, so the mid 48s, anywhere from 48.4 to 48.6, I would be very happy with.

Do you miss soccer?

A little bit. I've been playing my whole life, but I knew I'd eventually have to choose one or the other, either soccer or track. I think I made the right choice.

What were the benefits of playing two sports?

I have the advantage of being able to balance things out. I had the best of both worlds, one team oriented sport and a more individual sport. Also, being able to get a long with different types of people. Mainly, balancing so many things to do, going from soccer to track to doing homework, two to three times a week.
