North Penn is new No. 1 in PennLive girls' basketball Class AAAA state rankings heading into PIAA tourney

Plenty of switches in this week’s PennLive girls’ basketball Class AAAA state rankings.

In a 48-hour span last week, then-No. 1 Mount St. Joseph lost to then-No. 2 Spring-Ford, and then Spring-Ford lost to then-No. 3 North Penn in the District 1-AAAA playoffs.

So things are extremely jumbled at the top, with North Penn, the District 1 champ, taking over at the top spot.

Wilson-West Lawn, Cumberland Valley, Spring-Ford and Mount St. Joseph have occupied that spot at one time or another this season.

We put the Maidens there heading into the state playoffs.

Our objective this week was to reward district champions and teams that continue to have hot seasons as we hit the PIAA playoffs.

Again, as we’ve been preaching since December, this is not an exact science, especially in Class AAAA, where most of the District 1 teams spent the winter knocking each other off — like last week, when No. 1 and No. 2 both lost.

Should make for a heck of a state tournament.

Here is the Class AAAA top 10 and honorable mention picks, with overall records heading into the state playoffs and home district in parenthesis
