The big story: Sydney Newman hit a driving layup from the right side as the clock expired to give Camp Hill a 41-39 win over Tulpehocken in the District 3-AA girls' basketball quarterfinals on Friday night. The Lions (17-6) had possession with 26 seconds left after a traveling call against the Trojans (13-9) and were looking to pass inside, but ultimately left the game in Newman's hands for a 15-foot drive to the hoop. Newman had a chance to end the game in regulation, but her 3-point shot was off the mark.

Key sequences: Addie Guyer appeared to break the game open for Camp Hill by scoring eight points in the last 76 seconds of the third quarter with two 3-point baskets and two free throws. That had the Lions up 22-12 at the half. Kelsey Collingsworth hit a jumper to start the third period and put Camp Hill up by 12 points. But after that, Tulpehocken's defense, which switched from a zone to man-to-man, slowed the Lions considerably. The game would be tied three times in the fourth quarter, the last when Jamie Fisher hit two free throws with 1:16 left to even it 36-36.
On the scoreboard: Guyer led Camp Hill with 11 points, while Collingsworth added 10. Fisher scored 13 points to pace Tulpehocken, while Taylor Boyer added 10. Both Fisher and Boyer were 6-for-8 from the free throw line, and the Trojans as a team were 20-for-30. However, the Lions did not permit the visitors to score a field goal in the fourth quarter or in overtime.
Hustle points: Camp Hill won the turnover battle by a considerable margin, 24-9. Some of the Trojans' giveaways were caused by full-court pressure by Camp Hill, but some were sloppy passes in the half court as well, especially in the first half. Leah Springer led all players with 13 rebounds for the Lions. Fisher had 11 boards for the Tulpehocken, while Boyer had 10. Both Springer and Boyer had two blocked shots.
What they're saying: "In the second half, [Tulpehocken] did a great job. They outhustled us, getting rebounds and a couple breakdowns led to a couple baskets. We still bared down on defense when we needed to." - Camp Hill head coach Mark Clarke
"I saw it bouncing around, and I wasn't sure it was going in. ... I usually shoot 3s, that's what I do. But I wasn't making them all night." - Camp Hill's Syndey Newman on her game-winning drive
"We come back from 12 down away from home against a good team that plays in the Mid-Penn...when we switched to man [defense], that's what did it." - Tulpehocken head coach Bill Moyer
Rapid reaction: One thing that the Lions did well that did not appear in the box score was holding on the the ball for the last shot twice. Camp Hill kept it for over a minute at the end of the fourth quarter and 26 seconds at the end of overtime. Even though Tulpehocken was staying tight with its man-to-man defense, there was no real threat of a turnover. A possible concern, though, for the Lions was their inability to take a bigger advantage of Tulpehocken early. Seven minutes into the game, the fouls were 7-3, the rebounds were 12-7 and the turnovers were 7-2, yet Camp Hill's lead at that time was just 6-4. Whatever opportunities the Lions get against top-seeded York Catholic in the semifinals will need to be taken advantage of. That contest will be 7:30 Monday at Warwick.
