With eyes squarely on just which boys' basketball programs will qualify for their respective postseason tournaments, the folks at District 3 Monday afternoon revealed yet another set (No. 6) of power rankings.
These numbers figure to be updated regularly through Feb. 6, the last date of games that can and will be included in the power ranking calculation.
Remember that each classification has a max number of qualifiers, so the brackets in Class AAAA (20), Class AAA (18), Class AA (10) and Class A (12) will be structured accordingly.
For those who need a refresher about the power rankings, it's the number derived by taking a combination of a particular team's weighted winning percentage and its opponents' weighted winning percentage. That derived number (a 55/45 ratio is utilized) is then compared to everyone else housed in a particular classification, with teams listed in descending order.
The bottom line? Win games and win games against teams that also win games.
So, as of today and including results through Sunday, Jan. 26, the top five in Class AAAA are: 1. Central York (.816202); 2. Wilson (.809126); 3. Cedar Crest (.789973); 4. Hempfield (.755641); 5. Red Lion (.753271); 20. Shippensburg (.653672); 21. Central Dauphin (.651087); 22. Lampeter-Strasburg (.649396).
