Versatility was on display throughout the Mid-Penn girls' tennis season, and it's reflected on the the PennLive all star team.

Eight of the nine girls selected played both singles and doubles, with five qualifying for districts in both disciplines. That in no way diminishes the accomplishments of the individuals that specialized and also made an impact.

It should also be noted that six of the selections came from three teams — Cumberland Valley, Central Dauphin and Lower Dauphin — showing the dominance of these programs.

Here are the selections for this year's team, chosen by PennLive as the best players in the Mid-Penn Conference.

Eleanor Gerhard, Camp Hill

If there was an official Player of the Year award for local tennis standouts, Gerhard would win hands down. She went undefeated through the regular season, capturing the Mid-Penn and District 3-AA titles before dropping a tough three-setter in the first round of states. The Lions junior also led her team to a spot in team districts.

Mandy Bell, Chambersburg

The Trojans junior used her athleticism to build a spotless 15-0 mark through the regular season. She added to that total with a three-match run through the Mid-Penn No. 1 singles bracket to take the title back to Chambersburg. Bell was also an accomplished doubles player, teaming with Erin Young to finish second at Mid-Penns and qualify for districts.

Romayne Sharp, Lower Dauphin

Sharp entered Mid-Penns unseeded in No. 1 singles, but she quickly made her mark by bouncing Hershey's Christina Kreamer from the tournament in straight sets and qualified for districts, pushing Bell to three sets in the semifinals. As good as Sharp was in the postseason in singles, she was even better in doubles. She teamed up with Jordan Schaefer to make the district semifinals and placed fourth in the final rundown.

Jordan Schaefer, Lower Dauphin

This Falcons standout struggled a bit in singles but was money in doubles from every position on the court. Schaefer teamed up with Romayne Sharp and beat the top-seeded Chambersburg tandem of Mandy Bell and Erin Young in the Mid-Penn finals to qualify for districts. There, Sharp and Schaefer used piercing groundstrokes and easy putaways at the net to dispose of a pair of opponents and crash the semifinals party.

Julia Sternberg, Central Dauphin

Small in stature, but big on the court. That's how Sternberg played this season. The Rams junior was 12-3 in the regular season but carved her way to the Mid-Penn final by beating Cumberland Valley's Sydney Banach. Sternberg, who also qualified for districts in doubles with teammate Lauren McNair, lost in the Mid-Penn final to Mandy Bell but showed that she will be the favorite to win it all next season.

Lauren McNair, Central Dauphin

For a team to qualify for districts, it needs to have a solid No. 1 flanked by a No. 2 singles ace that can win in big spots. McNair filled that role and more by going 13-1 in the regular season and capturing the Mid-Penn No. 2 singles title. She was equally accomplished in doubles, combining with No. 1 Julia Sternberg to make the Mid-Penn semifinals and qualify for districts. The Rams tandem made noise, winning a first-round match before losing to eventual champions Ali and Sammi Snyder, of Exeter.

Sydney Banach, Cumberland Valley

The Eagles were the best team in the Mid-Penn this season because of their depth, and Banach was the anchor. She finished the regular season 13-2 and qualified for districts by making the semifinals at Mid-Penns. The CV senior also showed her worth on the doubles court, combining with Chloe Gouse to make it all the way to the district quarterfinals.

Chloe Gouse, Cumberland Valley

Gouse, a junior, didn't play singles this season, but that didn't make her any less important to the Eagles march to districts. The Eagles standout teamed up with Vinisha Reddy to post a spotless 18-0 mark and a Mid-Penn No. 1 doubles championship. Gouse also combined with Sydney Banach to qualify for districts and make it to the quarterfinal round.

Allie Tully, Bishop McDevitt

There were some rough patches, but Tully took over the No. 1 spot for the Crusaders and turned it into a runner-up finish at the Mid-Penn championships and a spot at districts. Tully also qualified for districts with Alexis Walker, and the Crusaders duo won a first-round match before being defeated in the quarterfinals.
