HERSHEY — It was a heartbreaking loss. But it was a heck of a season for Trinity’s girls’ soccer team.
The District 3 runner-up Shamrocks enjoyed quite the joy ride to Saturday’s PIAA-AA state championship game in Hersheypark Stadium.
Trinity outscored its opponents 9-0 in the first three rounds of state-playoff competition, but ran into a red-hot Central Valley team in the finale.
The WPIAL champ Warriors capped off a 23-0 season on Saturday, clipping the Shamrocks 2-1 to grab state gold.

Trinity nearly pulled off the comeback after falling behind 2-0 in the first half.
The Shamrocks had two point-blank shots on the goal in the game’s final 20 seconds, but couldn’t capitalize.
Ashley Mahaffey’s shot clanged off the cross bar and Ali Basom’s follow-up shot whistled wide left — and Center Valley hung on.
