MATCH RECAP

YORK -- Cambria Wierman posted a match-high 21 kills, including the final two points of the afternoon, as Delone Catholic edged Fort LeBoeuf 3-2 Saturday to win the PIAA Class AA girls' volleyball championship at Central York High School.

It's the first PIAA title for the Squirettes (27-0), who've won every best-of-five match since dropping last year's state title match to LeBoeuf.

The Bisons (19-2) out of Waterford in District 10 rallied in the second and fourth games to force a decisive fifth, but Delone never trailed in Game 5's race to 15.

Delone Catholic, also champion of District 3, won by scores of 25-14, 15-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-9.

KEY MOMENT

Fort LeBoeuf seemed to have momentum after winning Game 4 in relatively dominant fashion, but Delone opened the fifth game by scoring the first four points -- including three kills by Wierman.

The Squirettes' lead was 10-8 before a final 5-1 surge to close it, with Wierman accounting for her team's final four points via three kills and a block. Mary Gingrow also served three aces in the fifth game.

STAT GAME

After Wierman, a senior outside hitter, junior outside Maddie Comly contributed 17 kills for Delone, and junior middle Cheyenne Altland added six kills. Katie Laughman totaled 31 assists, with Sarah Senft adding 12. Wierman and Senft had two blocks each, while Gingrow's four aces led Delone.

For the Bisons, junior outside Larissa Cass and sophomore outside Kaley Fucci recorded 15 kills each, with senior middle Jolene Young adding eight kills and four blocks. Senior setter Abby Rose distributed 40 assists to go with four kills and two aces.
