LANCASTER — The first week of head-to-head section games in the L-L League are in the books.
Cocalico, Manheim Central, Penn Manor and Wilson all remained hot, going to 4-0 overall. And Lancaster Catholic hit the W column for the first time this season, compliments of a double-OT victory at Manheim Township.
Here are some numbers — and a few notables — to peruse …

* Not surprisingly, the four undefeated teams in the league hog-up the top of this list. Interesting that Cocalico and Manheim Central — on a collision course for their Week 6 showdown in Denver — have both allowed 33 points, lowest in the league. It’s amazing how closely Cocalico’s and Manheim Central’s stats mirror each others. Note that as you continue down this list.
TOTAL OFFENSE
Lebanon — 562 rush, 1,186 pass — 437.0

* Yeah, the “Air Raid” is definitely back at Lebanon. The Cedars have all kinds of gaudy numbers, including the top-ranked O number in the league. Lebanon and Elco have passed for 1,000 yards; Cocalico and Manheim Central — there they are again — have both rushed for 1,000 yards. Solanco still mired at the bottom, but did some things in a 37-21 setback Saturday vs. Lampeter-Strasburg.

Hempfield — 850 rush, 719 pass — 392.3
Elco — 910 rush, 834 pass — 436.0
* Wonder why Cocalico, Manheim Central, Penn Manor and Wilson are undefeated? They have the four top-ranked defenses in the L-L; they’re all yielding less than 200 yards per game, with the Barons out front.

* Lebanon is still out front in turnover margin, despite the fact that the Cedars turned the ball over three times in their 44-42 win over Ephrata in Week 4. Those were Lebanon’s first three turnovers this season. Annville-Cleona (0-4) has given the ball away a league-leading 16 times — four times per game; too many — and languishes at the bottom of the pack.

* Lebanon was flagged 15 times for 142 yards in its Week 4 win at Ephrata. Ouch. Can’t say why for sure, but looking at trends, I’ve noticed over the last several years — since I started monitoring these stats closer — the less-penalized teams usually — usually — have losing records.
