Central Dauphin golfer Allison Cooper made school history in last week's Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division meet at Mayapple Golf Course in Carlisle. Cooper, who sank nine birdies with just one bogey, shot a 6-under 64 for the best round of her life and the best score ever for a Ram golfer. We caught up with Cooper over the weekend to chat about her career-best score.
Sandrik: Congrats on shooting a 64 last week. What did it feel like to shoot that score and make school history?
Cooper: It felt great. I played pretty well and shot my best round ever. Shooting the best round in school history meant a lot because a lot of great athletes have come through Central Dauphin. It's nice to be one of them.
Q: How did the course play at Mayapple?
A: It was nice. I'd never played there before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The fairways were nice and the greens were rolling really well. There was more room to work here, but you still had to hit shots to get in position to hit the greens.
Q: While you were playing, did you realize how low your score was starting to get?
A: I did a little, but I was just trying not to think about it. After I play a good hole, I forget it and try to do just as well on the next hole. You never know what will happen in golf. Anything can happen on the next hole.
Q: What was your best shot/hole of the day?
A: There's not really one particular shot that stands out. On the Par 3s, I hit a couple of tight shots that got me birdies. There was nothing crazy about my round. It was just nice and consistent. The whole round just flowed together.
Q: What did you learn from this experience?
A: It taught me I have the ability to shoot as low as I did. I want to keep progressing from here. Hopefully it just keeps coming for me.
Q: Do you have any goals for the rest of the season?
A: I'm really excited for the rest of the year, but I'm just going to take my tournaments one at a time. I don't think far ahead, I just try to play the tournament of the day. Once that's done, I'm preparing and getting ready for the next one.
Q: Anything else you'd like to add?
A: I had a great time playing with Rebecca Graham (Boiling Springs) and Morgan Frazier (Cumberland Valley). It was nice to play with them because they were cheering me on. It was nice to share this experience with them.
