WEST LAWN --- Led by dominant middle hitter Devon Merritt, sixth-seed Berks Catholic rolled to a 25-6, 25-12, 25-12 win over Elco in a District 3-AA girls' volleyball opener Saturday at Wilson High School.
Merritt finished with 11 kills, while Michalle Chai paced the defense with nine digs for the state-ranked Saints (13-2), who will face Trinity in Tuesday's 3-AA quarterfinals.
Elco (13-8) ,which got one kills and two blocks from Celeste Shimp, was making its District 3 playoff debut in only its fifth season as a varsity program.
The Raiders, who finished second to 3-A fourth seed Columbia in Lancaster-Lebanon III, trailed 21-1 in the opening game and never recovered. In the third game, the score was tied at 10 before Berks Catholic ripped off 11 points in a row to seize command.
McKenna Achebach finished with six digs for Elco.
