HERSHEY AT ELIZABETHTOWN
FRIDAY, 7 P.M. IN THOMPSON STADIUM
RECORDS: Hershey is 1-0 overall; Elizabethtown is 1-0 overall.
THE TROJANS: Hershey is flying high after knocking off rival Milton Hershey 20-15 in the Cocoa Bean Bowl. The Trojans went ahead for good with 2:25 to play when QB Jesse Campbell darted 10 yards for the game-winning TD. Campbell kept for 130 yards, as Hershey piled up 246 rushing yards in all. Campbell shifted from WR to QB this season, and he’s off to a fast start. Trojans, who held off Elizabethtown 36-32 last year, also feature one of the top o-linemen in the Mid-Penn; Chase Watkins is a Bucknell recruit.
THE BEARS: Superb start for Elizabethtown, which knocked off Section 3 heavyweight Donegal 20-6 last Saturday. The Bears held the Indians to 185 yards and intercepted three passes. QB Tyler Cottle was one of the heroes; he had TD tosses to Jordan Kwamanakweenda and Arthur Quaye. LB Luke Longenecker was the D star vs. Donegal, with 11 tackles and a pick. It’s early, but physical Bears could break into Section 2 lead pack.
THE CRUX: Elizabethtown’s hard-charging defense — with ringleader Longenecker and an active front four leading the troops — against Campbell and his play-making prowess. Bears bottled up Donegal QB Justin Amspacher in Week 1. We’ll see if they can contain Campbell in Week 2.
REINHART SAYS: Really liked the Bears’ defensive effort in Week 1. But Hershey (-7), with the shifty Campbell taking snaps, gets the nod.
