LANCASTER — Every week throughout the football season, members of the L-L League Quarterback Club — comprised primarily of league coaches — vote for their Players of the Week.
They select an offensive back and a lineman from each section.
The Week 1 votes are in:
SECTION 1
BACK OF THE WEEK: Charles Bell, Penn Manor — Comets’ RB-LB shredded Solanco with six carries for 72 yards and a pair of TD runs; three catches for 43 yards and another score; and he completed a pass. On defense, Bell racked up 10 tackles — two for losses — and had a pair of sacks, and he also punted four times for a 40.2 average in Penn Manor’s 42-0 whitewash over the Golden Mules.

SECTION 2
BACK OF THE WEEK: Jhett Janis, Cocalico — Eagles’ QB-S came up big on both sides of the ball for Cocalico. On offense, he completed a pair of passes for 24 yards, but did more damage with his feet, calling his own number 13 times for 102 yards and two TD gallops. On D, Janis had three tackles and he intercepted a pass, returning it 42 yards for a pick-6 TD in the Eagles’ 49-14 romp over Daniel Boone.
LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Chad Zunich, Manheim Central — Barons’ punishing OG-DT was strong in the trenches for Manheim Central. On offense he compiled a high blocking grade. And on defense he had three tackles, including one for a loss, in the Barons’ 33-7 triumph over Warwick.
SECTION 3
BACK OF THE WEEK: Mitch Martin, Garden Spot — Super opener in the pocket for the Spartans’ QB, who completed 7-of-8 passes for 261 yards and had five TD strikes in Garden Spot’s 48-3 romp over Twin Valley. Martin also had 30 yards on a pair of keepers as the Spartans won their 11th regular-season game in a row.
LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Alex Wilson, Garden Spot — Spartans’ bruising OG-DT had a big game in the trenches. On offense, his strong blocking helped give Martin time for a near-perfect passing performance as Garden Spot piled up 399 yards of offense. Wilson also added five tackles on defense in the Spartans’ 45-point victory.
