Each Monday during the football season, members of the Pennlive.com prep football coverage team will pass out three game balls to deserving gridiron athletes. So without further ado....
1. Brandon Kuntz, WR, Trinity: We know Delone Catholic threw a wrench in the Shamrocks opener, scoring 21 fourth-quarter points to swipe a 42-28 nonconference win. But Kuntz made his presence known early and often, securing 11 receptions for 240 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-4, 200-pound senior put the T-Rocks first on the board, hauling in a 68-yard toss from QB Mike Boguski. Kuntz later added TD grabs of 64 and 8 yards to push Trinity ahead 21-14 at the break.
2. Garrett Chestnut, QB, Big Spring: If there was any question which Bulldog would be savvy enough to replace graduated Isaiah Greer, Chestnut answered it with his week 1 performance. Just a sophomore, Chesnut racked up TD after TD and steered Mike Berry to his first head coaching decision, a 42-12 triumph over visiting Millersburg. The signal caller did all his damage in the first half, as well, completing all 15 of his pass attempts for 257 yards and four scores. That's an obscene 331.92 NCAA passer rating.
3. Jesse Campbell, QB, Hershey: If you only glance at Campbell's passing numbers in week 1, you might miss the subplot. Campbell, always a talented wideout, was making his debut behind center. And he didn't disappoint. The Trojans versatile playmaker tucked it 21 times, gobbling up 130 stripes and a late fourth-quarter touchdown run that sealed Hershey's wild 20-15 victory in the 71st annual Cocoa Bean Bowl at Hersheypark Stadium.
