LEBANON COUNTY
County rolling in soccer
Lebanon County soccer teams are proving to be a tough out in the District 3 playoffs.

In the round of 16, played on Monday and Tuesday in the various classifications, local sides went 4-0 and never trailed in a combined 327 minutes of action.

The Dramatic
Maybe Cedar Crest’s 0-0 (5-4 penalty kick) victory in the Lancaster-Lebanon League girls’ soccer final over Cocalico on Saturday was a sign of more drama to come.

The Falcons again did not score, nor allow a goal, in 80 minutes of action against Lampeter-Strasburg on Monday. But in the seventh minute of overtime, Gabby Boehmer scored her team-high 26th goal of the season with an assist from Cece Fiorentino. Nikki Harner made five saves for the shutout.

The road does not get any easier for Cedar Crest. The Falcons will play No. 1 seed Wilson in the AAA quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday at Tulpehocken.

On Tuesday, in the AA girls’ bracket, Elco saw a 2-0 lead turn into a 2-2 tie in the second half against West York. But Amber Hartranft scored late for a 3-2 win. It was Hartranft’s eighth goal, tied for the team lead with Halie Parker and Kady Yoders.

Hartranft and Delaney Houtz had the earlier goals for Elco.

The Raiders will play Brandywine Heights in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tulpehocken.

In Control
Not every game was quite so gut-wrenching, though.

Palmyra posted a relatively easy 4-1 win over Berks Catholic in AA girls on Tuesday. Callie Good, Kristen Smoluk, Anna Kauffman and Angelica Kays each scored. Madison Good, who leads the Cougars with 28 goals, contributed two assists in the game.

The Cougars will face Northern in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lower Dauphin Middle School.

Lebanon County’s lone boys’ soccer team still playing, Annville-Cleona, blanked Boiling Springs 2-0 in AA on Monday. Braden Elliott and Sam Soliday scored in the second half for the Dutchmen. Soliday has a team high 19 goals. Justin Ulrich had three saves to blank the Bubblers.

The Dutchmen will play L-L rival Lancaster Mennonite in the quarters at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lower Dauphin Middle School.
