OPENING NOTES: The Mustangs, coming off of their third straight Berks Section 1 title, are now about a week away from kicking off their 2013 season. As anticipated, their season opener this year will be at home against hated rival Wilson, who ended the Mustangs playoff run last year.

THE SCHEDULE: This years schedule for Governor Mifflin features the exact same opponents as last year in the exact same order, however last years away games are now home and last years home games are now away. The only two regular season losses last year for Governor Mifflin came to Wilson and Lancaster Catholic in Weeks 1 and 2. Lancaster Catholic has lost their key weapon, RB Roman Clay. This should make Lancaster Catholic much less of a threat this year. If Mifflin can beat Wilson, they have a chance at a perfect season. However, the Mustangs did encounter many close games last year, such as Muhlenberg and Exeter. It should be interesting to see how this year plays out.

My Record Prediction: 9-1
THE ROSTER: The Mustangs two key losses this year are RB Ryan Barbon and WR Tommy DePaul. Replacing Barbon this year is Jonas Fiant, a Senior who has a great ability to run the football. The QB this year will remain Junior Jan Johnson, one of the best if not the best QB in Berks County. Although Tommy DePaul is no longer on the roster, the Mustangs have many more options at the WR position.

KEY GAMES: All of the games are important, but there are always those two or three games that stand out above the rest. The first key game on the list this year is the opener against Wilson. This game will be on live TV across Pennsylvania this year. the Mustangs went 0-2 against Wilson last year, including one regular season loss and a playoff loss. The second key game on the schedule is when Mifflin hosts Exeter on September 27th. Exeter showed some fight last year, so this game should be interesting to watch. The third key game this year is when Mifflin hosts Muhlenberg the following week on October 4th. Muhlenberg gave Mifflin a thriller last year, when Mifflin erased a big halftime deficit to come back and grab the W. Note that all of this years key games will be played at home on our turf, which provides an advantage to the Mustangs.
