Another shot put event, another solid finish for Cocalico rising sophomore Emily Stauffer.
Competing in the State Games of America, Stauffer on Saturday won the age 15-16 division, and she had the best heave of any competitor through age 19, claiming the gold medal with a 42-7.
Stauffer also set a PR in the discus with a 106-11 during the Games.

But the big news was Stauffer’s gold-medal-winning 42-7 in her specialty, the shot put.
She had an excellent postseason this past spring; after winning the L-L League title with a 41-9 ¼, Stauffer won the District 3 Class AAA championship with a heave of 40-7 ½, and she went on to win silver in the PIAA finals with a throw of 42-11 ¾.
It was one of the best freshman seasons by any L-L League athlete in recent memory.

Stauffer holds Cocalico’s school-record in the shot with a 43-10, which she uncorked in Manheim Township’s Blue Streak Relays late in the regular season.
She also competed in the Penn Relays.
