No. 1 Thirty-two teams teed off in the 20th annual Cougar Classic golf tournament held June 22 at Royal Oaks Golf Course. Among those playing was rising junior CeCe Richardson, who is expected to be coach Tim Refi’s top player this fall at Palmyra Area High School. Proceeds from the tournament are used to support Palmyra activities. Richardson played in a group with Refi, his fiancée, Marina Piccioni and his dad, Tom Refi.
No. 2 Various former Palmyra athletes turned out for the event, including former golfers Jared and Jordan Cook and their dad, Jeff Cook, who teamed with Bob Miller. No. 3 Rising senior Joe Julius is heading into his senior year at Lower Dauphin High in good form. One of the top place kickers and soccer players in the state, Julius spent the past week in Frisco, Texas with the Pa. Classics Academy soccer team. If Classics wins its four-team group, it advances to the national finals July 18-21 in Houston.
No. 4 Julius, who verbally committed to play soccer at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, is also looking forward to kicking for the Lower Dauphin football team this fall. Named all-state last year after kicking a 54-yard field goal, Julius is hoping to kick next year in the Big 33 Classic football game. His older sister, Madison, enjoyed a successful freshman field hockey season last fall at Wake Forest, while his younger sister, Abbey, helped Lower Dauphin win the PIAA-AAA field hockey championship last fall with an assist in the title game.
No. 5 Still another Julius, dad Larry, guided his team to a championship recently. The former soccer pro coached the Pa. Classics U-16 Academy girls to victory recently in the U.S. Soccer Southeast Regional tournament in Greensboro, N.C. The win qualified Classics for the national tournament July 18-21 in Aurora, Colo,
No. 6 Among the East Shore players on the Classics team are Kali Edwards (Bishop McDevitt), Lucy Krikorian (Palmyra), Shayna Pressley (Central Dauphin), Riley Curtin and Dahlia Chroscinski of Hershey and Maddie Noonan (Elco).

No. 7 Hummelstown and Hershey squared off in Dauphin County Legion baseball action June 22 with the Trojans sweeping both ends. Rising sophomore Blake Smith homered in Hershey’s 6-4 win in the opener, followed by rising senior Tim Edwards going the distance to win the nightcap 7-4. Rising senior Jack Gunkel had key hits for Hershey in both wins.
No. 8 Among the recent East Shore athletes to announce their NCAA Div. I commitments was Susquehanna Twp.’s Jonas Page (Florida International, basketball), Harrisburg’s Robert Martin (Rutgers, football), Lower Dauphin’s Trey Klock (Georgia Tech, football) and CD East’s Calee Gelbaugh (Rider, basketball).
No. 9 Steel-High’s Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Hampton) was named recently to the Parade All-American team. Tate-DeFreitas capped her brilliant prep career by scoring 1,010 points her senior year, leaving her with 3,366 career points. The only player to score more points in Pa. history was former Mount Carmel star Maria Fantanarosa.
No. 10 The Linglestown Reds were crowned champions of the Midget Division of the Linglestown Baseball Association on June 19. The Reds defeated the Tigers in the championship playoffs, two games to none in the three-game series.
