LANCASTER - Five L-L League track and field athletes made the trip to Greensboro, North Carolina over the weekend to compete in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T University.
Warwick's David Lucas tuned in the top performance among local athletes, earning a seventh-place finish in the discus event.
Here's a look at how the five L-L League athletes fared ...
Warwick's David Lucas uncorked a 155-10 to finish second in Flight 2 in the emerging elite discus. He made the finals, and his 155-10 was good for seventh overall. Bauvier Jackson from Spartanburg, South Carolina, won with a heave of 170-7.
Hempfield's Danielle Poletti, the two-time reigning L-L League girls' pole vault champ, finished eighth in Flight 2 in the emerging elite competition with a clear of 10-11. That vault was also good for 15th overall. Jackie McNulty from Frederick, Maryland, won gold with a clear of 12-2 3/4.
Manheim Central's Tyler Hoag finished 12th in Flight 1 and 26th overall in the emerging elite shot put competition with a heave of 46-1 1/4. Joe Manson from Danvers, Mass, took gold with a 57-7.
Not a great day in the boys' javelin competition for Cocalico classmates Jhett Janis and Spencer Moser.
Moser was 10th in Flight 2 with a throw of 151-10.
Janis, the reigning L-L League and District 3 runner-up, fouled on all three of his preliminary attempts and didn't make the finals.
Justin Carter, from Auburn, Alabama, won with a throw of 212-7.
Carter also won the Chicagoland Throwers Invitational last week.
