Williamsport's Isaiah Washington, shown last season trying to block a shot by Harrisburg's Jahaad Proctor, isn't Penn State's only 2014 commitment. He's been joined by Roman Catholic's Shep Garner. - (Samuel Getty, For PennLive.com)

Roman Catholic's Shep Garner, the 6-2 rising senior guard who last season averaged just under 16 points per game while leading Chris McNesby's Cahillites (19-7) to the second round of the PIAA Class AAAA tournament, has issued a verbal commitment to Penn State.

Garner joins Williamsport's Isaiah Washington, who committed to Patrick Chambers' Nittany Lions prior to his junior season, in Penn State's 2014 recruiting class. Both landed on the Class AAAA all-state team (second team) selected in April by a panel of Pennsylvania sports writers.

A Chester native, Garner committed to the Nittany Lions while in State College and participating in a Penn State camp with his Roman Catholic team.

Garner is the second Philadelphia-based player to commit to the Nittany Lions in the last week, joining 6-8 rising junior big man Michael Watkins. Watkins, who will transfer to reigning Class AAA champion Imhotep Charter from John Bartram, verballed to Penn State on Wednesday.

Bishop McDevitt's Milik Gantz, a rising 6-3 junior with lead guard skills, made an unofficial visit to Penn State on Monday.
