Dallastown's unexpected romp through the District 3-AAAA postseason continued Thursday as Tyler Butcher styled a five-hitter against Waynesboro, leading to a rain-shortened 7-0 triumph.
After shutting down third-seeded Mechanicsburg in the opener, the 14th-seeded Wildcats made it two straight shutouts behind Butcher's calm work and 15 rowdy hits.
Tanner Forry's 3-for-4 performance helped push Dallastown (13-8) to an improbable semifinal date with Exeter on Tuesday.
Interim coach Jack Markey watched his Wildcats expand a razor-thin lead with a four-run fourth inning. And despite two hits apiece by Waynesboro's Brandon Yurek and John Barr, Butcher made the comfortable lead stick until the quarterfinal in Dillsburg was stopped a half-inning short by rain.
Zach Luman, Nick Sutton and Kevin Ludwig (two RBIs) each banged a pair of hits for Dallastown. Indians (17-4-1) ace John Barr was touched for eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. It was Barr's second loss of the season.
