HS Baseball Tuesday highlights: Cedar Cliff, State College and CD East charge to Commonwealth victories

COMMONWEALTH

Cedar Cliff 1, Cumberland Valley 0: Game-winning pitcher Jackson Pettis got all the insurance he would need in the second inning. Pettis scattered seven hits and struck out three. Julian Bury delivered the difference, a two-out single that scored Noah Malone. Matt Ober took the loss despite allowing just four hits. Mitchell Chapman chipped in two hits for the Colts.

State College 5, Central Dauphin 4: Tanner Witter and Darian Herncane each went 3-for-3 for the Little Lions, who pieced together a three-run fourth before holding off the Rams. Witter's RBI single, and run-scoring singles by Caleb Walls (2-for-3) and Nick Smith, highlighted the big inning for SC. The Rams, paced by Riley McLaughlin (2-for-2) and Dallas Underwood (two RBIs), rang up two runs in the seventh, but Tim Hobbs, attempting to score from first on Underwood's two-out shot to the right, was gunned down at the plate.

CD East 3, Carlisle 2: Trystin Tolbert cracked two hits with two RBIs, although the Panthers stil needed a 10th-inning rally to subdue the Herd. In the 10th, Tyler Clancy drew a free pass and advanced on an errant pick-off attempt at first. Seconds later, Stephen McInturff scored Clancy with a two-out single. While reliever Kyle Fackler got the decision, Tolbert delivered nine solid innings, striking out three. Earlier, the Herd grabbed a 8-7 win to complete a suspended match. Jed Thorson totaled three runs, and Brian Goodling a pair of hits, in that extra-inning win. 

Mifflin County 4, Chambersburg 3: Isaac Strohecker went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Gage Reeseman chipped in a pair of hits for the Huskies. Those numbers helped lift complete-game winner Isaiah Kearns, who struck out four against two walks. Chambersburg, which got two RBIs from Nick Graham, couldn't aid five strong innings of relief for righty Johnathon Brown.

KEYSTONE

Palmyra 13, Susquehanna Twp. 4: A big performance by Connor Gurt (3-for-5) and four combined RBIs by Mitchell Sauley (2-for-4) and Griffin Mitchell (2-for-4) led the Cougars. Palmyra racked up 12 hits in all, including a run-scoring triple by Zach Miller. Gurt also plated a pair of runs. The 1-2 punch of pitcher Tyler Morder and Bryce Betz limited the Indians to four hits, including a three-run dinger by Laron Mitchell.

CAPITAL

Camp Hill 15, Steel-High 0: Mike Chrencik bashed a pair of doubles and plated three Camp Hill runs in the shortened affair. Mike Hope, Nick Marquart and Jack Dunphy all picked up two RBIs apiece for the Lions, up 11-0 after two complete.

COLONIAL

Gettysburg 1, Shippensburg 0: The Warriors stung Shippensburg, riding Justin Martin's solo jack in the second inning. Martin's blast was one of three hits allowed by Hounds pitcher Andrew Koser. On the other side, Brent Crushong matched Koser's three-hitter and survived three walks.

TRI-VALLEY

Upper Dauphin 9, Halifax 1: Freshman pitcher Kyle Glouner swiped the sticks right out of the hands of Halifax, firing a complete-game one-hitter. Ian Buffington paced the Trojans offense with two hits, including a RBI double. Cats hurlers Kaleb Reitz and Hunter Hilinski were a bit out of character, sharing eight walks.

Newport 11, Millersburg 1: The Buffs came out swinging, rallying behind Mason Arbogast (2-for-3), Cole Bower (2-for-4) and Aaron Ehrhart (2-for-3), who totaled three runs batted in. Newport also got a fine five-inning push by pitcher Jordan Clegg, who collected five strikeouts.

Line Mountain 9, Lancaster Country Day 1: The Cougars were done in by Kellan Masser and Line Mountain's overall speed edge on the bases. Masser's day included three hits, including a pair of doubles, and three runs batted in. Jeremy Renn weighed in with two runs and two RBIs. The Eagles swiped 10 bases in all, handing hurler Brady Micael the decision.

CCAC

Lancaster County Christian 11, Harrisburg Christian 1: Pitcher Jensen King and reliever Kyle Ebersole derailed the Knights, combining on a three-hitter. King and Ebersole shared 11 strikeouts. LCC roped 10 hits and took full advantage of nine free passes.

LANCASTER-LEBANON

Annville-Cleona 13, Lebanon Catholic 0: The Dutchmen sent nine batters to the plate in third, scoring six runs, then sent 11 to the dish during a six-run fourth. Tanner Fitting, who also grabbed the quick decision, scored three times while Robbie Beidler banked two RBIs. Fitting fanned nine.

Warwick 6, Cedar Crest 0: Tyler Morris belted a solo home run, part of his 4-for-4 performance, and Warwick pitcher Travis Reapsome shackled the Falcons from start to finish. Reapsome struck out 10 and limited Cedar Crest to four hits in a complete game. Morris totaled two runs and two RBIs.

OTHERS

Red Land 5, East Pennsboro 2: Jeremy Hileman secured a four-hitter and Jake Payne erupted for three hits as the Patriots nailed down the Mid-Penn crossover win. Payne plated a single run and Pats lead-off man Jamie Eshleman chipped in two hits.
