LANCASTER - Both were varsity players for four seasons.
Both enjoyed standout careers, won a lot of games and helped their team win championships.
And Satuday night, they both saw their standout prep basketball careers come to an end.
McCaskey seniors Diante Cherry and Devonne Pinkard both did a lot of damage during their high school basketball careers.
Cherry, who will continue his football career at the University of Delaware, is pound-for-pound one of the best athletes in the L-L League's class of 2013.
Pinkard, who transferred back to McCaskey prior to his junior year after spending some time at Lancaster Catholic, will soon announce which Division I program will inherit his hoops skills.
At last check, he was down to Drexel, Delaware and James Madison.
Cherry and Pinkard helped McCaskey go 26-4 this season. That includes a Section 1 championship and the program's 13th L-L League title. Plus a blistering 25-game winning streak, which ended in the district semifinals.
And a 52-51 loss to Coatesville in a PIAA-AAAA first-round game on Saturday - the last game for McCaskey's excellent crop of seniors.
Cherry and Pinkard will walk away as 1,000-point scorers:
Cherry had 385 points this season, averaging 12.8 points per game.
Cherry finished his career with 1,391 points.
