Ron Berman wasn't prepared to label this determined group as his best ever, but it's the only one that can accurately call themselves district champions.
Carly Richardson scored 14 points and tough-minded forwards Kait Carmo (12 points) and Kristen Smoluk (10) chipped in double-digit hauls as Palmyra outraced Susquehannock 46-30 to collect its first District 3-AAA girls' basketball title at Giant Center.
The guts of Palmyra's record-setting triumph was, once again, rooted in fast, tactical, defense and the Warriors' struggles to get anything to drop in the opening half.
Susquehannock, who walked into the D3-AAA bracket as a 6-seed, came up empty in the second frame and fell behind 25-10.
During that run, Richardson made a bit of history of her own, following her own miss at the 7:05 mark and running her career total past the 1,000-point plateau. That deuce also opened a 13-0 run for the Cougars.
Palmyra (28-9) will meet the fourth-place qualifier from District 12 next Saturday in the opening round of the Class AAA Tournament. Susquehannock (18-8), paced by Katie Wagner's 14 points and Abbey Barnhart's eight rebounds, will settle for a rematch with Lancaster Catholic in its opener.
Much more on Palmyra's historic win coming up.
