Dan Hillery isn't a regular at ABC North. It only looked that way last Saturday during the biggest tournament of the high school season.

It was a good way to end.

The Cumberland Valley senior went shot-for-shot with the best bowlers in District 3 for much of the day and did the Mid-Penn contingent proud by placing third in the District 3 Boys' Bowling Championships.

Hillery's day couldn't have started better. He smashed a 277 game to start his qualifying block and finished the six-game total with a 1,373 total, third best in the 36-player field.

In the quarterfinals, Hillery got past McCaskey's Jason Snyder 211-182 before meeting up with

Garden Spot's Matt Martin in the semifinals. There, the Eagles standout fell short 207-168 and ended up third in the final rundown.

Conrad Weiser's Barry Kline defeated Martin for the District 3 title 240-223.

Other local finishers were East Pennsboro's Brandon Runk (12th), Lebanon's Cameron Weaver (17th), Central Dauphin's Alex Dankman (30th), Middletown's Alex Kemler (31st), CD East's Aaron Feree (32nd) and Elco's Josh Rittle (34th).

In girls' play, Central Dauphin's Sydney Herrman placed sixth. She was sixth in qualifying with a 1,228 block and lost in the quarterfinals to Manheim Central's Kelsey Hammons 194-162.

Lancaster Mennonite's Chelsey Merklinger defeated Hammons in the title match 217-194 to win the championship.

Other local finishers were Brittany LaBarre (9th), Central Dauphin's Beverly Good (11th), Cedar Cliff's Jamey Pfaff (14th), Cedar Crest's Rebecca Hresko (23rd), Lebanon's Brittany Rittle (26th), Cumberland Valley's Emily Skurzynski (27th) and Northern's Alexis Hess.
